I really enjoy working on Biology and stem cells so I imagine that I will stay working in this area for a while. However, different areas of science blend together so much and lots of people work in areas that combine different parts of science e.g. chemical biology. It might be possible that in the future I change in an area such as this.
At the moment most of my work is in cell biology, but we work a lot with people in different departments as well. At the moment I am working on a project with researchers in electronic engineering to try and grab stem cells from a mixture of cells. I am also working as an advisor on a project with people who want to use sound waves to move cells.
I think what is important to say is that a lot of research doesn’t work as distinct areas of biology, chemistry and physics. We work with the people we need to to try and get technologies to work. That being said I think I would like to stay mostly in stem cell biology, but you never know!
As everyone has said, so much collaboration happens between biologists and non-biologists. I’m seeing a lot of physics and biology mixed together and also computer science. You never know where your research will take you too, so I wouldnt be suprised if I started working on something a lot different. 🙂
Hi lilpanda,
I quite like the way the fields of physics and biology are staring to have more interaction so I could easily see myself moving towards something in that field : )
