      Hi al95,
I think we will all probably give the same answer for this question! But for me personally it takes up a lot of my time! I work roughly 9.30am to 7pm Monday to Friday and then spend maybe an hour or so at some point over the weekend. Some days however we have talks after work which can run ’til 8/8.30pm! When I’m not here I do some voluntary work with 2 organisations and I like to dance/hit the pub when I get the chance!

      Hi al95

It does take up a lot of time during the week, the hours can be long and I mostly don’t get home until about 6:30-7pm. I have 3 children (5, 4 and 1) so I try and avoid working weekends so I can spend most of my free time with them. When the children are in bed I will often do some work in the evenings, writing papers, presentations or emails. When I’m not working I like to watch films and go out for meals with my wife. I’m also learning French on my commute to work.

Hi al95. Science does take up a fairly large amount of your time, but compared to other jobs it is not too bad. Generally I work 8:30am to 6:30pm and try and avoid work at the weekend, but this is not always possible. Outside of science I enjoy playing sport (I play a lot of cricket in the summer), cooking (it is actually a lot like doing experiments at work) and going out with my friends.

I feel bad. I don’t think I work nearly as hard as the other scientists who have already answered! I try to work hard enough, but also have enough time to do the other things I enjoy. I listen to quite a lot of music and go to gigs fairly regularly. I also enjoy going to the cinema quite a bit. Or I just want to spend time with old friends. Unfortunately work does take up most of my time and there is never enough time to do all the things I want to do!
