I really enjoyed science at school and college so I thought a degree in science was the way to go. After a year working in an office I decided to go back and do a PhD, my first degree was in biochemistry and genetics so a project based in biology seemed like the best idea, which is why I chose tissue engineering. After that I started to work with lots of other cell types and I began to specialise in stem cell biology, which led me to the post doc I am doing now.
I think the reason I decided to stay on in research is the interest the job gives me, what I’m investigating is something no other person has ever seen. Also the results have the potential to really improve peoples lives, which is great motivator.
I always enjoyed Biology and Chemistry at school, so decided I wanted to do Biochemistry at university. I enjoyed working in a lab studying fungal infections in flies, so decided I wanted to do a PhD in a subject related to Biology. I ended up here doing a PhD in stem cells and I guess I’ll probably carry on working on things related to Biology.
Hi miniguy99,
We all have one thing in common and that’s the fact that we’re alive right?! I like biology because it’s the study of living things like me or you. My mind boggles when I think of all the things that have to go right to create a fully formed human being and all the things that keep us going every day. That’s pretty much why I chose it as a career path!
