I think for me it is seeing new things that nobody in the world has seen before. We are finding new things all the time and contributing to people’s understanding of the world around, that is a pretty cool feeling. The fact that this work has the potential to help people’s lives in some way makes it all the better.

In some ways the best part of being a scientist is the fact that I can decide for myself what hours I work! I don’t have a strict time I have to get into work, so some days I don’t manage to get into work until 10. The number of hours I work mostly affects how much work I can do which will affect how successful I can be as a scientist, so I try to catch up on the days I get in late by staying at work a bit later or coming in on a weekend.

Also, I just find the work I do really interesting and enjoy reading and thinking about it. To have a job that I can actually really enjoy and find interesting is I think very fortunate.
