Hi jessicaroseb. There are a few reasons, firstly I thought it sounded like a really great way of interacting with students to try and explain some of the science I do and to show what it’s like to be a working scientist. This is because I think it’s really important to show what we do because we are funded by the public and the public should be able to ask us questions.

I also wanted to show that science is something that anybody can do, I’m from working class rural Norfolk with no history of science or higher education in my family. So I guess I hope to inspire a few other people to think about a career in science as something they could do as well.

I hope that answers your question!

Mostly I thought it looked like it would be fun! But also, I enjoy talking to people about science and if people are interested and have good and interesting questions like you are all giving us, then it makes it a lot more enjoyable for us to answer them!

      Hi jessicaroseb,
I really like to interact with students and young people, especially in discussions about stem cells and science in general. I give some lessons on stem cell science in local schools and I really get a kick out of seeing a spark of interest in a student or them coming up with an idea that I think is really cool. So it felt like taking part in this gives me that chance during my normal working day, for a few weeks (hopefully!)
